#316 of 365 Pirates of Dark Water Zoolie

Another day, and another figure in the Pirates of Dark Water week, here on Toy a Day as part of Nostalgia November.  Today's figure is Zoolie, a bad guy turned good who sometimes helps the good guys in their adventures, but mostly tries to stay out of trouble.

Zoolie comes on the usual card, and thanks to his placement in the bubble, his naked round belly is shown prominently.  Instead of focusing on it though, I have to give a shout out to the PoDW site I found while doing research for this week, Always the Quest.

It's also interesting to note that Zoolie has a "3" after his name.  1 is of course Ren and 2 belongs to Ioz, so he probably was a rather important character for the toyline, although the cartoon doesn't really suggest this.

Zoolie has the usual 5 points of articulation, so there is nothing special there, but his beard does obstruct his neck articulation somewhat.  The sculpt is amazing and the face is sculpted with tender loving care - he even does look a lot like the picture shown on the card.  The paintwork shows off the details of the sculpt, especially the face.  However the light blue armband seems a bit out of place.  Zoolie comes with two simple weapons, a sword and an axe.

Zoolie is much much smaller than Bloth, and slightly shorter than Ioz.  Nevertheless, thanks to his red head and shiney round tummy, he draws attention to himself when displayed, and is great for play too.  Actually, I do know someone who would look great in a Zoolie outfit next year for Halloween...

  1. I always wanted this guy. Like you said, he never played a big part in the series, but his design is so appealing.

I love the read spiky hair, and the exposed "rum belly" just completes and sells the design to me.

I would love to see some modern versions of these pirates to use with my MOTUC figures. That would be sweet.

Also thanks for the link to the site. I didn't know PODW was on dvd. I'll have to pick it up now.

  2. Wow, PoDW is gonna be a nice new acronym... maybe for it's 25th anniversary soon?
