#237 of 365 Robotech Rand

I was digging through my boxes for figures for September and October and November (yes, I'm usually about 3 months in advance for this blog, planning wise that is) and I found these while looking for Monster October toys.  Wait a minute, didn't I just open some Robotech figures a few days ago?  Yup I did, there's Dolza and the generic Zentraedi warrior.  So in my desire to open everything from the same line in one go (so that I can store them all together again), here's Rand from Robotech again, Animated August style!

Rand comes on an individualised Robotech card, but being a 3.5-inch figure, his card is a bit smaller than Dolza's or the Zentraedi Warriors.  Despite being smaller though, it still has everything fitted properly on the front and the back.  Rand's mug is front and centre on the front of the card.

And there's even a drawing of Rand on his Mospaeda cycle.  I give props for that.  His bio on the back is for his RDF persona instead of his Mospaeda persona, but there isn't that much a difference between those two anyways.

Rand seems well constructed, and reminds me of a GIJoe figure.  He's got hinged knees, and elbows and ball jointed shoulders, hips and head.  The painting is minimal, but where there is paint, especially his face and hair, it's good.  His head sculpt does not resemble his character in the cartoon or the illustration on the card though.  Rand comes with a blaster, which he can hold in his hand, but I can't make it point straight.

I have a confession - I really really like the Mospaeda series.  OK, so Rand wasn't my favourite character in the show, but he is part of the show.  I think I'll have to bust out the rest of my Mospaeda collection and display Rand with them, despite the fact that they are from different lines.

  1. He IS built a lot like a classic 1980's GI JOE figure. He actually one-ups them though with his ankle articulation. Hasbro didn't start adding that til recent years...along with a ton of other articulation points.

  2. I actually had this figure as a kid, and may still have it somewhere. I think some of these Robotech figures were clearenced out from a Kmart, and so my parents bought them for me. I remember having him, an old man in a light blue robe, the 3 3/4 inch version of the green guy in purple in your picture, the folks in space suits, and a girl in silver armor.

  3. Nope, no ankle articulation on the figure. The boots are painted on too. And that's a lot of figures Barbecue17. Do you still have them?

  6. Novelty:

Not sure. I have a big box of miscellaneous 80's G.I. Joe styled figures and accessories somwehere: If I have them, then they're most likely in that box. Tonight after church, I'll be cleaning out a closet in my hobby room, so perhaps I'll locate them. If anyone wants them, I don't have any real attachment to them, so I'd be willing to let them go.

  7. I'm interested in pictures of the toys though. If you find them, do you think you could take some pictures? And wow, you have a hobby room? Colour me jealous :)

  9. G.I.Joe had more, but for such small figures, they sure have quite a bit of articulation.
