#402 of Year 2 Secret Wars #11 Thor / Enchantress

It's another Monday, and this is Figures February.  Since I've started a themed month, I thought I'd do a sub-theme week along with it, and this week it's X-Men week.  And X-Men week starts with... Thor and Enchantress???

The card looks busy, what with the artwork on the front and the Marvel logo splashed in the lower corner.  The Secret Wars logo is also displayed thanks to the way the comic is packaged.  The figures are almost hidden within the clutter.  The back seems a lot cleaner and just has a picture of the figures as well as two other two-packs images.

Hasbro took Mattel's Superhero comic idea from the He-man vs Superman 2-pack and expanded it for this toyline with this 12-comic series.  The comic is a reprint, and seems to be a recoloured version based ont he source material.  It's nice, but it's 25 years old and the story and the artwork seems a lot dated.

Out of the bubble, there's Enchantress, Thor and two accessories for Thor, his cape and Mjornir (or however that is spelt), Thor's hammer.  First off, both figures had really, really loose waists, to the point that they were doing the twist on their own most of the time.  The other joints were passable, and depending on the character, there were different joints, but there's still a lot of joints, including two on the torso alone.  Thor's cape is made from a soft and very rubbery plastic, which is good.

These are four-inch figures though, which is the scale that Hasbro prefers based on their GIJoe property.  Which means they will be dwarfed by the DCUCs or the Marvel Legends.  They are even smaller than the Spiderman 3 figures, but seems a lot more proportionate.  I actually bought this 2-pack today, and it's nice to be able to open a figure the day I bought it.  Tomorrow, will I actually open an X-men figure for X-men week?  Come back to find out.

  1. Thor's alright, but I find that cape and his hair hinder a lot of his movement. The MU Modern Thor looks a TON better.

  2. Isn't the MU Thor in a completely different scale altogether?

  3. I was thinking about buying this, but then I ended up getting the modern Thor figure instead. They are both in the same scale.

Also, the two figures and comic didn't originate with the He-Man/Superman set. Hasbro's been doing these for Star Wars and GI Joe for at least a couple of years before that set was released.

  5. I'd get that Thor if it was available as a single... those 2 packs are 20 bucks up here.

  7. I remember Ewan's review of this 2-pack and he was none too impressed with Enchantress. Thor looks good though like he just stepped off the pages

  8. What's it with poorly designed female figures from the big 2? Mattel does it with the JLUs and Hasbro seem to do it with their stuff (but then again, I only have this one female Marvel figure from Hasbro)
