It's still Speed September as I continue with Lego Cars 2 week here on Toy a Day. Today we move on to the protagonist and the sort of antagonist of the movie, McQueen and the Italian F1 car, Francesco.
The box is the same size as Tow/Holley's from yesterday, but it does look very different. I think Lego used the graphics for the movie as a backdrop on the front of the box, which is a very good idea as it does spice up an otherwise boring looking set.
There are two baggies and the instruction book and decal sheet inside, plus three big pieces which are not bagged.
The first baggie has white, red and green bits, so it's Francesco?
Actually, that first baggie builds both McQueen and Francesco, which was a surprise.
Baggie number two builds the starting/finishing gate thing and an allinol advert.
This is the Grand Prix deco'ed Lightning McQueen and he does look a bit... sleepy actually. He does have some nice printed bricks on the front, sides and back, but those eyes appear as if he's just woken up from a nap!
Francesco is decked out in his Italian red, white and green, but looks nothing like the vehicle in the movie. He's a bit cute and that's not a compliment. He could have been better - I've seen better Lego F1 vehicles from the Racers theme.
Overall, it's nice, but boring. The vehicles are a bit underwhelming in terms of design and build. The starting gate is nicely designed, but I can't escape the feeling that it's been thrown in just to bring the parts count up to what is required for such a big box. This is definitely a bit disappointing.
