#300 of 365 Revoltech Jack Skellington

It's the final week of Monster October, and yesterday I opened a gitd ghost.  Today, I'm opening this citizen of Halloweentown, which thanks to Tim Burton has lots of pumpkins and is great for this time of the year.  Everyone should know Jack Skellington from the Nightmare Before Christmas and thanks to Revoltech, we now have a highly detailed and articulated version of the character.

The box is rather wordy on first inspection, but that's because there's a removable wraparound "slip" of paper in front.  The slip has a picture of the designer's mug, the toy's mug and lots of Japanese words in between.  The back of the box shows the action features, and the poses that the toy is capable.  The other figures in the line is on the wraparound.

The "lid" of the box folds out to reveal a window.  There's small bits of velcro to keep it in place.  The inside of the "cover" is even more wordy than the cover, and has what seems to be a long story of some sort.  The window design is simple, but it does highlight all the parts that the figure comes with, including the extra hands and heads.

There are two trays out of the box, and the promotional booklet, with the other figures of the line.  The trays are nested one on top of the other, with the top tray holding the figure and most of his accessories, while the lower tray holds the diorama; well, most of it anyways.

There are still those twisty ties that American companies seem to overuse.  Here though, there are only a handful of them.  The back of the ties aren't taped to the trays like tape is a cheap accessory and that makes them easy to untwist and remove.  There's also a small tube of plastic wrap where the ties hold the contents in place so that the hard plastic-wrapped metal ties does not damage the fine details of the sculpt - that's such a good idea.

The diorama piece isn't too shoddy, there are four pieces in total with the two main pieces on the black lower tray.  Assembly is easy, although it took me a while to figure out which of the two minor branches fit where on to the tree, but that's not too big an issue.  Now, all those pumpkins are removable, and can be swapped around, and that gives a great way to customise the diorama piece.  And the hanging skeleton just adds the air of fun to the whole piece.

The figure is stick-like as is appropriate for him and comes with 5 hands and 5 heads.  Each of these are different from the other, and the headsculpts in particular, are nicely executed, each one with a different facial expression.  There's also an orange two-piece box to store all the smaller pieces and a 10-point coin/token proof of purchase thing.  And a nameplate.  In English.  And before you say "So What?", please do remember that this is a Japanese toy marketed to non-English speaking Japanese folks.

The figure himself has the revoltech ball joints which means it has a very wide range of movements for each joint.  My one complaint is that the figure can hardly stand on his own because of the original (cartoon movie) character design, but that's not the fault of the toy company that made him.  Still this is a very impressive feat of toy engineering, and I'd put this together with... let's see, Bandai's Soul of Chogokin God Mars and Voltes V.  Guess what I'm displaying on Halloween on my main toy shelf?

  4. I don't regret spending the $30 for him. That's $30 including postage. For $30 excluding postage from matty we get an Orko with Prince Adam. No comparison really which is better.

  6. Yup, these Revoltech are very affordable considering what you're getting. And he's 6-inch tall, so it's not as if it's a 3-inch GIJoe or something...
