#262 of 365 Dick Tracy Pruneface

Today is Thrawn's day, and if he posts a comment with the word "gimme" in this post, I'll give him an extra ticket for the contest.  Well, it's been Dick Tracy Fortnight for so long that I've lost track of how many days are we into it... I think Pruneface is the ninth figure of the line.  Welcome to Super Screened Sepetember here on Toy A Day.

Pruneface comes on the normal Dick Tracy card.  What's new to talk about the card?  Well, this is the first carded figure that seems to have given the character a pose in the bubble.  He looks as if he's running.  Also, the detonator accessory seems to have two eyeballs with eyebrows in the package, and reminds me of a Pokemon thing.

Out of the package, well, it's the usual story - figure and three accessories.  The sculpt on the figure has the usual details on the torso and head, but in this case, he does really have a prune for a face.  However, because of the way he's painted, the lines of the face aren't really visible at a distance.  The paint is not as garish as some of the other figures, but the maroon pants with the lime green tie clashes so much that it actually looks good.  The paintwork is a bit shoddy on this figure, but it's still acceptable.

Pruneface comes with the gun and the gunbelt with the penis-shaped peg that also comes with a few other figures, as well as his Pokemon creature.  Pruneface is not as garish as some of the other figures and seem to fit in well with the line, but his face sculpt always reminds me of Hannibal from the A-Team for some reason.  Oh well.

  1. Pruneface was my favorite! I think mostly because of his detonator accessory.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the little "eyes" on the detonator have positive/negative symbols above them, right? That's a nice touch!

It's funny that while these are all characters from the movie, they follow more a comic book styling. The movie is completely exxaggerated and many of these freaks look a lot like the in-movie characters.

  2. Yup, it has the +ve and -ve text.

I should really watch the movie one day. But I'm not sure I'll enjoy watching "ancient"-era mob war stories.

  3. LOL

It's not a bad movie. It's very comic-influenced and campy. Sort of like Sin City without the vulgarity and gory violence.

  4. I've always wanted to watch the movie! I never have, which my best friend can't believe. I don't want to own the toys though. lol

  5. I thought you said you had the toys, DS? One of these days I'll watch the movie. I'm not really a big movie person.

  6. I have at least one of the figures. He came in a bag of toys or an eBay lot of toys. I wouldn't purposely buy any Dick Tracy toys. lol Maybe Dick Tracy and the Mahoney doll (Madonna)...but that would be it. ;)

  7. I need to watch Dick Tracy again, too. These figures nicely match the movie and comic style.

  8. They do? match the style, I mean. Was the movies similar to the Ninja Turtles or something?

  9. Yay! I've been waiting for this one. After watching the Dick Tracy movie in theaters way back when, Pruneface was my favorite villain from the piece. I don't know. He always seemed to be one of the most dangerous ones.

I saw his figure in Walmart one day and I instantly told my mom "Gimme". But in a much nicer manner.

I still have this little guy in my miscellaneous toybin.

Nice review Novelty. It was worth the wait. And thanks for the little shout out. :)

  10. You have a misc toybin? You should take pictures of it and post it somewhere. LOL, how about a guest shot next year? Toy a Day 2011 featuring Thrawn and his toybin!!!

  11. Ha! Doesn't everybody have a misc toybin? I've got some Star Wars figures in it, Hook (Robin Williams' movie) toys, Mighty Max, old Happy Meal Toys, etc. Lots of odds n' ends from the last 25 years. I've got some toys that I have no idea what toyline they are from.

If someone's really interested maybe I can post a pic on Poe's forum somewhere.

  13. Maybe I'll post it in the Thrawn/Darkspecter Thread over on Poe's later. I'll try to do that later today or tommorrow. I've started buying those Walmart clear plastic bins to put my toys in instead of cardboard boxes.
