It's the first themed week of Mecha March. I've been itching to open up the rest of my TFAs since I do really really like that line, and I guess this week I get to open them all! Welcome to the TFA week of Mecha March and rather than start big, I'll start small, with an Activator.
I must confess that I opened this the day I saw the first episode of the Prime cartoon, so that cartoon is gonna be one of my most hated versions of the Transformers. Heh, just kidding. Still, to kill Cliffjumper right at the beginning? Not good.
The card is the standard TFA Activator card, and since this is more a less a repaint Bumblebee with a new head, well, it's very similar to the Bumblebee card. I have to confess that this is a TFA from China - not just made in China, but also sold in China. Because of that it has little holograms everywhere on the card, including right under the Ages 4+ sign on the top right of the card. The back of the card is defaced with a white decal and Chinese writing, so there's nothing much to see there.
Inside th bubble, there's a one sheet instructions sheet with quite a bit of Chinese writing, and a one-piece toy.
The toy is pretty much the same as Bumblebee, so just head over there to read about it. The only thing new is the head sculpt, which is done in Cliffjumper's Animated style. I think I like this head a lot more than Bumblebee's head.
The vehicle mode is exactly the same as Bumblebee, but the paintwork is slightly different. Here though, I think Bumblebee's stripe works in his favour as Cliffjumper just looks too plain. My Cliffjumper is also rather tight fitting in vehicle mode, and transforming it via the button actually doesn't really work as well as Bumblebee, but that's a minor issue.
I do wish they'd have made more of the Throttlebots in animated style - I'd have gotten them all despite the fact that they are reissues. Sadly, these are the only two... for the time being, although perhaps if I lobby the right people, there might be some convention exclusives...

I had to order mine from Japan (as well as Arcee and Blackout) but it's OK - I'm very happy to have him.
ReplyDeleteWow, how much did that cost? And which site did you order the Arcee from? I need an Arcee too, and if they have Blackout, Prowl, Grimlock, Snarl, Blitzwing and Lugnut, I'll probably get those too...
ReplyDeleteOoh I love these activators too. An I especially love Cliff Jumper because of the different head sculpt from Bumblebee. It just gives the guy so much character despite being the same figure sans the head!
ReplyDeleteYup. It was because of this CJ that I almost bought a United CJ... until I opened up the United Bumblebee and decided I didn't want another one of that.
ReplyDeleteHaha, cool. I like that they finally wiened up and gave 'Jumper a diff head from Bumblebee, G1 cartoon be damned!
ReplyDeleteThey did that again in the United line and uh, whatever they called that line in the US.
