Just in case anyone is still wondering, I'm still on Mecha March, where I'm opening toys that fit my definition of Mecha. A Mecha is a huge giant robot thing usually piloted by a erm... humanoid, but in my definition, it's not always so. Hence, I'm opening Megatron today (although I have to say that the original Transformers toys including the Dinobots had little pilots and cockpits...)
I walked past the Transformers aisle and was staring at the Battle for Cybertron three pack when this little Megatron caught my eye. Wait, it transforms into a gun? Sweet. It's gunmetal gray, even sweeter! So on an impulse, I picked him up.
The card is boring with the logo on the top and the bubble below. The card has the name and the RtB sign. It's pretty much standard for the Transformers. The back of the card has a picture of the gun, the RtB gimmic and the instructions for transforming from robot to gun. That's new, at least for Transformers. Gone are the other figures in the line thing... unless it's under the bubble, which I didn't bother checking.
I like how the logo of the subline includes both the autobot and decepticon logos merged together. The rubsign has been absent from the recent toy releases and it's good that they've reintroduced it back into some of the toys out there.
Megatron in robot mode is tiny, but he does have some nice detail on him His facesculpt is very similar to how he appears in the vintage cartoon, and his blockiness also brings back memories from that era. It's definitely miles better than the pile of junk Megatron that Michael Bay has turned him into. He has 7 points of articulation, but the shoulders and neck are hinged. There's an extra point of articulation on the gun on his arm.
The transformation is simple and I like how it does actually look like a gun, as opposed to a sci-fi tank that looks like a pile of junk. The orange barrel of the gun is a bit weird, but I'm going to guess they made it that way so that it won't be confused as a real gun. The gun can also be easily held by some of the larger figures. Now I don't have any of the bigger Supreme class of Transformers, so a certain beast will have to do...

Big fan of these mini size transformers. The more they look like their G1 designs the better. Nice articulation for such tiny transformers too.
ReplyDeleteThey transform, which is good. I don't like the RPMs which don't transform.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it "Reveal the Shield"? Maybe they're named differently in your part of the world?
ReplyDeleteI've gotta have this one - and when I get him I am immediately going to repaint that orange barrel!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea Mr. Toyriffic.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is RtS here as well Taz, I don't know why I typed in RtB...
Awesome! I've also en eyeing this guy and was doing so one day when I spotted--Optimus Prime! Yeah, so I bought Prime over the tens of Megatrons they had. Lol.
ReplyDelete@SDB: The blue Prime, or the other one? Or is it at a bigger scale?
ReplyDeleteNo, it's the regular colored one in the scale with the same packaging. ;) I'll review him soon, I hope, Heh.
ReplyDeleteI've seen that, but it wasn't too impressive for me. Megs was interesting, because, well, he can be held by the Shadow Beast, or Darkseid, or Atom Smasher... or... or... or...
ReplyDeleteI never ever looked at the small Transformers, always thought the legends scale and RPMs were junk. Guess I was wrong, this looks good both in robot and alt mode
