#265 of 365 Dick Tracy The Rodent

It's the last and final of my Dick Tracy figures.  Welcome to Dick Tracy fortnight here on Toy a Day.  It's part of Super Screened September, where I open toys with links to animation/cartoons and movies.  There are two more figures in the line, but I don't have them, so I can't really open them.  Aren't I glad that this short fortnight is almost over.  And now, on with the show!

The Rodent comes on the usual *yawn, excuse me* Dick Tracy card.  This was the figure I orignally was going to post on Hobotastic, until I realised that Lemonjuice would talk about doing gay things to me (again! nothing new there) if I didn't write about the character they made of him - The Tramp - on Hobotastic.  So this character ended up here instead.

Out of the bubble, there's this purple figure with three accessories.  No, it's not Barney, although if he had a tail and a snout he could be easily customised to be Barney.  The sculpt is nicer than usual, with buttons on the jacket and the usual tie.  There's even a wad of cash tucked into his jacket.  The paint isn't perfect, but it does bring out the details of the sculpt.  What fails though is the colour scheme - really?  Does anyone wear a red shirt and a green tie to go with a purple suit?  The Rodent comes with the usual "dick" accessories - the machine gun, long bent bar and missile belt has all been seen before this fortnight.

Now I don't know why, but The Rodent is more bowlegged than the other figures.  Maybe he's been riding a horse for too long?  Heh, I'm gonna miss making those sort of jokes!

  1. There's nothing gay about brutal, brutal beatings... to the genitals...with broken bottles. :)

  2. Wow, 12 figures already? I know one of the figues you didn't review was The Blank, who was the other?

  3. You and your S&M tendencies LJ.

3B: The Blank and I think a figure called The Brow? If you wanna do a guest shot on either or both, well, please feel welcome to do so.

  4. I'd love a modern toyline with these figures. An entire line of gangsters with tommyguns, knives, and explosives? With stupid names like Influence, the Tramp, and the Rodent? Sign me up!

  5. LOL! I would love to!

Sadly, you have 12 more of these than I do.

  6. @Thrawn: I wonder if it will get made.

@3B: Well, I guess it's time for you to go shopping? LOL.

  7. Hey, guess what Novelty! Remember when we were talking about Dick Tracy in one of your figure reviews and you wondered/wanted/wished someone made new figures? Well...someone did!

I didn't know about this, but Shocker Toys seems to be doing one-offs of main heroes in a line called "Indie Spotlight." I'm excited for Dick Tracy and The Tick!

Comic-Con exclusives are already for sale (and some are sold out). Not sure when the regular ones will be out:

  8. Oh wow, Shocker Toys? Are they the guys who made the Maxx and the Kabuki that 3B reviewed here a while back?

  9. EDIT: If you click the "Action Figures" Image/Link you can do pre-orders. Heh.

  10. I'm not so sure I want one of them. The toys look great, but they are so fragile. At least according to 3B.

  11. Yes, that's them! The Maxx wave was wave one. The Tick wave, is wave 2. All toys will come with 1 Tick related accessory. That kind of blows because I love the Tick and don't want most of the others.

Also, Mucus Tick is an exclusive! That's so cool! I was just watching The Tick season 1. lol

  12. You could always ebay for the Tick accessories.

  13. Possibly...it would probably still be quite expensive though. I just read more and if you buy ALL the figures and send in their UPC's, you get a free Arthur figure!

That's both exciting and saddening. I only want those two, Dick Tracy and the guy who looks suspiciously like Union Jack.

I just read 3B's review on Kabuki. He mentions both The Tick AND Dick Tracy. Whoops. lol

I've had that problem with Street Fighter toys. My Cammi lost both her legs. lol The toy line before SOTA. Also, my Deathstroke DCUC lost his arm. From DC Direct, my Alfred's leg came off, Commissioner Gordon's glasses broke in half and BOTH of Harley Quinn's arms came off!

Lots of cheap expensive toys. lol

  14. You have the worst luck with toys. LOL. Perhaps its the weather there, where its warmer inside your freezer than outside the house ;)

  15. Nah. I just buy lots of toys. Some are bound to be terrible. lol

Also, I don't live THAT North. lol

  16. I buy lots of toys too. Enough to open one toy for each day of 2010 and still have a surplus. I don't have as much complaints as you seem to have. And I've been told that it's pretty much the norm for you that outside the window is a better place to keep beer than the fridge...

  17. :p

It's been hot for quite a long time in my neck of the woods (literally...I almost literally live in the woods. lol). It just recently started getting cool. I just started wearing a jacket and pants (instead of shorts) within the last week or two. No Eskimos here. lol

Now, in the winter there are definitely times when storing stuff outside is colder than the fridge. lol

Most of my toys are great. I think all toy companies don't care as much about QC anymore though. I never had a problem with any toy (that I can remember) before the last 90's.

  18. I wonder if toy qualities these days are because manufacturing is in China, whereas before the 90s, they were in other places.
