#213 of 365 Lego 8518 Ben 10 Jet Ray

So, it began here, took a whirlwind tour of three other blogs and I thought it'd be a fitting end for Lego Ben 10 week to conclude back here.  OK, so it's not the end of the week yet, but it is the end of the month, and with that, the end of Jambalaya July.  It's now the start of Animated August and the line-up is all well, up and ready to go.

#212 of 365 Lego 8517 Ben 10 Humungousaurs

Yay, I'm still opening Lego Ben 10 and today is the turn of Humungousaurs.  Today is also the penultimate day of July and thus it's also the penultimate day of Jambalaya July.  Next month is Animated August and I've got a whole lot of goodies lined up for August... and September and October.  Yes, I'm anal enough to prepare the next 3 months, especially since I can't wait to open some of those stuff!  However, today we turn to Humungousaurs of Lego Ben 10 fame, duing this mini Lego Ben 10 week of Jambalaya July.

#211 of 365 Lego 8410 Ben 10 Swampfire

It's almost a mini Lego Ben 10 week here on Jambalaya July as I countdown towards Animated August (which will start in 3 days time).  Today I'm looking at Swampfire:

Animated August Preview

Just because there were some requests for this:

#210 of 365 Lego 8519 Ben 10 Big Chill

It shouldn't come as any surprise after yesterday that I'm opening another Lego Ben 10 today.

#209 of 365 Lego 8411 Ben 10 ChromaStone

I've been having so much fun opening Lego sets this month (Yay!) which is such a huge difference from the usual action figure openings, yet so similar.  So I thought that in getting ready for the run-in to Animated August next month, here's one from Ben 10... Lego wise, that is.

#208 of 365 Centurions Doom Drones Strafer

Way back in May, I made a stupid bid for a Dragon Blaster Skeletor and ended up paying more for him than I could afford.  Well, I also separately made a purchase of this from Ebay because it was going for cheap.  It's hard to find cheap Centurion toys these days, every little piece is being marked up for extortionist prices, so it's good to be able to pick this up for a few bucks.

#207 of 365 Lego 5646 Duplo Farm Nursery

Well, I'm trying to complete a farm animal scene built from Duplo bricks for a certain room of the house, and previously I've opened Little Piggy and Chicken Coop.  I did post about getting a whole bunch of Lego over the weekend, including this set.

Animated August and Beyond

Well, first off, I did some Lego shopping today...

#206 of 365 Spiderman 3 Venom

I was digging through the boxes of stuff, getting ready for Animated August today, when I stumbled upon this.  Now why didn't I open this back in January when I was running out of figures for gitd January?  I have no idea.  I only vaguely remember buying this - mainly for it's gitd feature, of course.

SDCC Friday MotU News

Oh boy, where do I start?  Mattel had a panel and revealed quite a lot of things.  They did confirm Vikor as the February 2011 subscription figure.  Blegh.  Let's go through the figure reveals:

SDCC non-MotU things that caught my eye

It's SDCC and I've been catching the news.  The big news for Friday was the Mattel reveals for MotUC, but there's been other news trickling out that has caught my eye.

#205 of 365 Lego 5644 Duplo Chicken Coop

I'm going to take a break from MotU today.  Originally I had planned to open Tytus, but since I don't have time to actually do an opening video for him, I'll have to pass until I get the time to do the video.  It won't be August though, because well, let's just say I've got a lot lined up for August!  So, let's just get to something easy.

Christmas comes early?

New images of this year's Christmas/Winter set! Ooooh! Me like!

Tigra from Hard Hero

My favourite Thundercat finally has a statue!

#204 of 365 NECA Battle Armor He-Man

Well, since I'm doing a mini-MotUC week, here's the last of my unopened NECA staction.  Well, unopened no longer.  Battle Armor He-Man is now out of the box.  And thus ends the saga where I started the year with all 6 waves series and Randor unopened, and today, they are all opened.

Stitchwork pin-up

No, I don't think anyone would want a pin-up of me. I  have just finished colouring a pin-up for Jason Stephens (the smarter half of Lemonjuice McGee!). It was fun colouring over someone's inks.  I haven't done any colouring since I started this blog.  You can take a gander at the proper version over at Jason's blog.  You can see a copy of the image without Jason's inks below, to whet your appetite, or to turn you off it.  The full version is on Jason's blog.

#203 of 365 Masters of the Universe Classics Keldor

Whoa, this is the third day of MotUC this week, and it's only Thursday.  Will this shape up to be a mini-MotUC week?  We shall see.  Today I'm opening Keldor, which was last month's bonus figure.  Keldor is Randor's half-brother, and the guy who eventually had his face burnt away to become Skeletor.

MotUC SDCC news

I'm just going to do a numbered list:

1. The 2011 subscriptions for MotUC is now on sale at matty collector.  The Ghostbuster ones are also on the same page.
2. Poe Ghostal has a good picture of Grizzlor.  Go take a look at the furriness and tell Poe I sent you.  Do sign up for his forums while you are there.
3. Mattel has revealed the figures for the last quarter of 2010 and the first quarter of 2011.  These are Roboto (Oct), Grillor (Nov), Buzz-Off (Dec), Bow (Jan), Vikor (Feb), King Hiss (March).  The text is small, but it's captured on a photo at Toy News International.  Oh and some of that may be a hoax by Mattel.
4. And while you're there at TNI, check out Mattel's updated AttiTubes, which includes a Horde Leech and Merman, pictures of a blue wing Zoar and blue wing Stratos with red jetpack (centre of picture), and packaged pictures of Grizzlor and Carnivus.
5. Toy Guru Scott Neitlich has supposedly said that the Grayskull stands will be reissued early 2011.
6. Pixel Dan has posted pictures on his Facebook page showing Mossman deodorant and two silvery She-Ras for raffle at SDCC.  The deodorant are supposedly being given out at SDCC.  I have no idea who would want to smell like MotUC Mossman.

#202 of 365 Masters of the Universe Optikk

It was She-Ra yesterday.  Today is the turn of Optikk.  Now I got Optikk when I was doing Justice League June and I was just having way too much fun opening those DCUCs.  I wasn't a huge fan of Optikk because I thought the 4 Horseman and Mattel could have jazzed it up a lot more to make it better (for starters, making it shiny gold like Booster Gold for example would have won lots of points in my book)

#201 of 365 Masters of the Universe Classics She-Ra

It's toy #201, and I've done Lego for a week, so I thought I'd take a break and just open these up since I'm way way behind everyone else with this.  This is She-Ra.  As a kid, I've always wanted the Princess of Power stuff to be in the same line as my He-man stuff.  After all, they did the cross overs on TV, so why not with the toys?  Well, 25 years later (and this is She-Ra's silver anniversary), we finally have a  proper She-Ra (and not a token) in the same line as He-Man.

#200 of 365 Lego 8084 Star Wars Snowtrooper Battle Pack

Today, I'm opening the other half of what I opened yesterday.  Yes, it's still Lego week, eventhough the week is over and it's a Monday, but since it's Jambalaya July, I guess anything's game.

Sunday, 18 July 2010

#199 of 365 Lego 8083 Star Wars Rebel Trooper Battle Pack

It's still Jambalaya July here on Toy a Day and I'm doing the countdown to toy #200 which is tomorrow.  I'm still on my mini Lego week/run so I thought today I'd open up another army builder pack, this time from the Star Wars franchise theme.

#198 of 365 Lego 8188 Power Miners Fire Blaster

I enjoyed last year's Power Miners release from Lego.  Part of the reason was because it had gitd decals.  The other part were the cute little rock monsters.  Well, it's year 2 and Lego has decided to release more Power Miners.  This will probably be the last year that we see Power Miners as it will probably be cancelled next year (Yes, you heard it here first!)  And I'm still on a mini-Lego week as part of Jambalaya July.

Grizzlor frontal and Cosmic boy bustier

A picture of Grizzlor from the front has been making the rounds on the internet:

MotUC Cosmic Sword

I ordered this way back in April, but only got it this month.  I can't fault Plastique Realm though, they did send it out in April as the sticker attests.  However, it took 3 months to get here, most of which was probably left sitting in a post office in California or something.  Not good.

#197 of 365 Lego 5618 Castle Troll Warrior

All good things comes in threes.  At least that's what I'd like to have people believe.  Today is the third Castle Impulse set.  Welcome to Jambalaya July where it's anything goes - toy wise, that is!

Thursday, 15 July 2010

Random MotUC news

It's Matty release day today, but since I'm not going in the trenches, I thought I'd catch up on various other tidbits.

#196 of 365 Lego 5615 Castle The Knight

We're still on Jambalaya July and this week is beginning to look as if it'd be a Lego week.  Yesterday I looked at a Castle Impulse set.  Today we continue the trend with another Castle Impulse set.

Matty release day - July

The 15th is tomorrow, and since it's not a Sunday, it's another Matty Release day.  It's the height of summer though, so I guess people are away on holiday thinking about how to make fans suffer by their stupidity or something.  Or probably it's the lead up to SDCC.  Either way, there isn't much going on for this release day.

#195 of 365 Lego 5614 Castle Kingdoms The Good Wizard

Kansas City and Oz both have their wizards.  Lego though, has a multitude of wizards, and this is one of the sets.  Welcome to Jambalaya July and I guess this is shaping up to be a Lego week after all, what with this being the third set this week (and it's only Wednesday!).

#194 of 365 Lego 7570 Prince of Persia The Ostrich Race

One of the licenses that Lego signed this year was for the construction toy tie-in to the Prince of Persia movie.  Now the movie had some criticism, but still raked in a whole bucket-load fo money.  There were some great sets in the movie as well which would translate rather well to Lego.  Sadly, a lot of those never got made.  Instead, we got some rather bland Indiana Jones sets dressed up as Prince of Persia.

However, one of the few outstanding features of the Prince of Persia sets are the new Ostrich piece, which is the main reason behind me getting this set.

#1 by 3B Indie Spotlight, Kabuki

Hello, all! 3B from Killer B Hive here, Novelty has graciously invited me to share a review with you as part of Blog Mash Bash! Today we're looking at Indie Spotlight's Kabuki figure from Shocker Toys.
Shocker Toys picked up licenses for characters from independent comic books and strips. So far, figures of Mad Man, Dick Tracy, The Tick, Golden Age Blue Beetle and more have been announced as part of the line. My first encounter with these figures came about a month ago at my local Toys R Us where they're appearing in the "Collector's" aisle. I was really intrigued by Kabuki when I saw her on the shelf, but I couldn't cave-in to the $16.99 price tag... so, I ordered her directly from Shocker Toys, where she was $15 flat (including shipping!).

#193 of 365 Lego 5643 Duplo Little Piggy

I'm still surprised at the, well, surprise in the comments for Lemon, and today's toy is hopefully not as controversial as that.  We're still in Jambalaya July and today it's the turn of the Little Piggy from Lego's pre-school Duplo line.

#192 of 365 Captain Power Power On

It's rare that toys were made for a TV series (as opposed to a cartoon) in the mid 80s.  I mean, we didn't get Star Trek TNG toys until the 90s, so Mattel went out of the way to made this toy, part of which interacted with the TV show.  How cool was that?

Captain Power and the soldiers of the future features a group of military men who were fighting against this evil doctor type dictator figure in a future world where clones have taken over the world.  Hmm... I kid you not, the basic idea of this was ripped off by Lucas 10 years later for Star Wars, Attack of the Clones, although this idea is an embellishment of Battlestar Galactica (the original one, where Starbuck was a guy).

The good guys were led by Captain Power, who had to power up, Japanese style in a secret headquarters.  Mattel decide to make this toy and also threw in a Captain Power figure with the playset.

#191 of 365 Lego 7789 Toy Story 3 Lotso's Dump Truck

Well, since I'm on a Toy Story roll, I thought I should go along with that.  Now, this isn't all the Toy Story stuff that I bought, no siree, but this is one that I can't hold off opening!  Welcome to Jambalaya July!

Lotso is the main villian of the third movie, and he moves around on a dump truck as he walks with a cane and a limp.  This set also includes two of his henchmen, the Octopus dude, whatever his name is, and Chunk, the rock monster figure.

White or Pink? Can we have both?

Mattel has revealed the issue to be voted on at this year's SDCC's MotUC panel.

#190 of 365 Toy Story Buzz Lightyear

Well, since we had some Toy Story yesterday, here's some more today.  But instead of ABS brick goodness, here's a mattycollector.com exclusive?  Well, I think he was an exclusive.  I picked him up from matty, but he could also be a SDCC exclusive from 2009.  Anyways, it's Jambalaya July, and I guess I'm doing a mini Toy Story run.

#189 of 365 Lego 7595 Toy Story Army Men on Patrol

After more than a month of action figures, here's some Lego goodness.  I've been on an extended Lego break on Toy a Day, and more so since I've been looking at the amazing stuff that's been released so far this year.  Prince of Persia Lego!  Ben 10 Lego!  But the theme that I've been looking forward to all year is this one, Toy Story, particularly this set, the Army Men on Patrol.

The army men featured in all 3 Toy Story movies, although their numbers dwindled until there were only 3 left in the third movie.  Only the green army men were shown in the movie, and consequently, the only versions of Lego Toy Story Army men are green.

Poe Ghostal announces... an axe???

Poe Ghostal, which I have wrote for, has opened up a web store (not Webstor!).  They have since teamed up with Spy Monkey Creations and have announced their first exclusive item on the store, the Dreaded Axe of the Hordes.
